Upstate Men's Soccer Returns 25 players while Coach Halkett enlists 7 freshmen and 1 transfer for the 2024 season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - USC Upstate men's soccer has unveiled the newest additions to the roster. The new 33-man roster includes 25 returners, 7 freshmen, and 1 transfer.
 
Head Coach Scott Halkett expressed his excitement about the new class by saying, "I am extremely excited about this group of new players that have joined our Upstate family. The talent level is extremely high. They will help strengthen the squad technically and tactically. They also all have great attitudes and bring a level of mental and emotional strength that will help them adjust quickly to the physicality of the college game. Each new player's strengths will add a new dimension to the team."
 
Shayne Abrams comes to Spartanburg, S.C., from Brampton, Ontario, where he graduated from St. Edmund Campion Catholic Secondary School. During the 2023 season with the Bears, Abrams scored 5 goals and helped his team to be both the 2023 Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) Senior Boys Champions and the 2023 ROPSSAA Region Champions. Abrams played club soccer for Toronto FC Academy. His cousin, Makayla Ennis, played basketball for two years at Virginia Tech. Abrams is attending Upstate in pursuit of his business administration degree.
 
Sam ter Linde comes to Spartanburg, S.C., from Mooresville, North Carolina where he graduated from Lake Norman High School. Ter Linde was a four-year varsity player for the Wildcats and held the title of captain for the 2022-2023 season. Also in the 2023 season, ter Linde appeared in five games, totaled four points, and scored two goals. He was named to the all-regional team in 2023 and the all-regional and all-conference teams in 2022 and 2021. Playing for the Charlotte Independence 06 Boys Academy club team, he was a 2023 USL A champion. Ter Linde is attending Upstate in pursuit of his business degree.
 
Daniel Busby comes to Spartanburg, S.C., from Charleston, South Carolina where he graduated from James Island Charter High School. During his career with the Trojans, Busby totaled ten goals and 15 assists. Busby helped his team win the Region Seven championship and the South Carolina High School (SCHSL) state championship in the 2020-2021 season, region champions in the 2021-2022 season, and region champions and lower state champions in the 2022-2023 season. Playing for Surf South Carolina Soccer Club, Busby totaled eight goals and 12 assists while helping his team clinch the 2022-2023 ECNL Playoff. His father played soccer at Anderson from 1988-1990 and at Erskine from 1991-1993. Busby is attending Upstate in pursuit of his pre-engineering degree.
 
Pilani Alexander comes to Spartanburg, S.C., from Tampa, Florida where he graduated from Alonso High School. He played club soccer for Clearwater Chargers MLS Next. Alexander is attending Upstate in pursuit of his entrepreneurship and innovation degree.
 
Bradyn Cobb comes to Spartanburg, S.C., from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina where he graduated from Oceanside Collegiate Academy. During his time with the Landsharks, Cobb totaled 15 goals and 20 assists. He also helped his team win the region championship and back-to-back 2A state championships for the SCHSL in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. In addition to playing soccer, off the field Cobb was a member of the National Honor Society. Cobb played club soccer for the Charleston Battery. His father, Jeffery Cobb, played soccer at Indiana University from 1991-1993. Cobb is attending Upstate in pursuit of his degree in criminal justice.
 
Gabriel Conlin comes to Spartanburg, S.C., from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina where he graduated from Oceanside Collegiate Academy. He was a four-year letter winner in soccer for the Landsharks, recording 5 assists. Conlin helped the Landsharks win the region championship and back-to-back 2A state championships in the SCHSL for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He played club soccer for South Carolina Surf Soccer, totaling six assists and one goal across three seasons. His mother, Olga Mcnally, and father, John Conlin, played soccer at the College of Charleston from 1995-1997. Conlin is attending Upstate in pursuit of his degree in information management and systems.
 
Carlos Lopez comes to Spartanburg, S.C., after transferring from Miami Dade College.  He played club soccer for the College Dreamers. Lopez is attending Upstate in pursuit of his degree in criminal justice.
 
Liam Duggan comes to Spartanburg, S.C., from Pickering, Ontario where he graduated from Pickering High School. He played club soccer for Toronto FC Academy. Duggan is attending Upstate in pursuit of his degree in business administration.
 
The Spartans open the 2024 season on Wednesday, August 14th at 7:00 pm with a home exhibition game vs. USC Lancaster.
