How It Happened
Featuring the same balance the offense showed Friday night against Presbyterian, Upstate, Saturday, saw all five primary attackers record seven or more kills, leading to 47 total kills (15.67 per set) as a team—45 of which were assisted. Senior middle blocker Ady O'Grady paced all attackers in the match with 12 kills, leading the Spartans for the sixth straight match in the category. Joining her in double-figures, freshman outside hitter Summer Kohler chipped in 10 terminations.

Freshman middle blocker Kensley Haneline and junior right-side hitter Katia Nikolic collected eight kills apiece while freshman outside hitter Morgan Powell added seven.

Distributing the ball for the offense, sophomore setter Kamyla Vega David passed out 40 helpers, hitting the 40-assist plateau in a three-set match for the second time this season, the lone Big South setter with 40-plus assists in a three-set match this season. As a team, Upstate posted a .343 hitting efficiency, the third time this year posting a hitting percentage of .300 or better.

Defensively, while no Spartan reached double-digit digs, six different players registered six or more digs. Redshirt junior libero Emma DeSensi and O'Grady led the sextet with eight balls apiece with Kohler just behind with seven digs.

At the net, Upstate finished with 5.0 total team blocks, registering five or more total blocks for the fourth straight match. O'Grady led the Spartans with four total blocks, recording a solo block and three block assists. In service, a pair of servers combined for six service aces as DeSensi and Vega David each landed three winners apiece.

Notable
  • Recording 40 assists against the Buccaneers, Kamyla Vega David is one of five NCAA setters to register 40-plus assists in a three-set match, 50-plus assists in a four-set match, and a 50-plus assist five-set match this season, joining Alex Bower of BYU, Kaylee Finnegan of Butler, Grace Purichia of IU Indy, and Maddie Waak of Texas A&M.
  • Vega David, however, is the only of the five setters to record multiple instances of each milestone this season, holding two instances of 40-plus assists in a three-set match, three instances of 50-plus assists in a four-set match, and two instances of 50-plus assists in a five-set match.
