SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Returning to the field after eight days, Upstate Softball took the field in a crosstown battle on the Hawkins Field at Cyrill Stadium against Wofford College with the Terriers taking the win over the Spartans.
Wofford entered the first inning getting on base with a fielder's choice and following with taking advantage of a throwing error in the infield to take the field. The tight battle continued with Amie Johnson adding a single to center field, but the Terriers followed with two outs to end the inning keeping Upstate scoreless. Wofford opened the fourth inning with two hits and followed with scoring their second run from a wild pitch. Upstate found a way to swing the momentum on their side as Alanna Deal smacked a double to right center. Abby Polk's sacrifice fly to center field was enough send Alanna Deal to home plate scoring their first run. Wofford looked to add some insurance runs which paid dividends with a two-run homer to left field to extend their lead to 4-1. With one last chance, Sophia Kardatzke opened the inning with a triple to right field getting into scoring decision. Carson Shaw's sacrifice fly to right field drove in Upstate's second run moving their deficit closer to tying the game. Alanna Deal followed with an infield single up the middle to continue the rally but the Terriers were able to close the game with a victory over Upstate.
