COLUMBIA, S.C. – Closing out a six-game road swing with a trip to the state capital, USC Upstate baseball dropped its midweek contest at Founders Park Tuesday evening, falling 13-3 to South Carolina in eight innings.
Leading the Spartans at the plate, senior designated hitter
Johnny Sweeney collected his 11
th multi-hit game of the season, finishing the night 2-for-3. He ripped his eighth double of the year in the fourth inning, kickstarting the Spartans' two-run frame, before adding an RBI single in the seventh inning.

How It Happened
- B1: Striking first and capitalizing on its bases-loaded situation in the opening frame, South Carolina's Dalton Mashore slugged a grand slam to the left of the batter's eye in center.
- B2: Adding to the Gamecock advantage, Ethan Petry homered to center, a two-run shot.
- T3: Getting a pair of runs back for the Spartans, Scott Campbell launched a two-run home run of his own, sending an 0-2 pitching into the seats in left.
- B6: Expanding upon its lead, South Carolina tallied six runs in the sixth frame. After loading the bases with three straight hits to open the inning, the Gamecocks first tally came behind a bases-loaded walk before a bases-clearing double from Jordan Carrion tacked on three more. The final two tallies scored on a two-run single from KJ Scobey.
- T7: Taking back a run for the Spartans, Johnny Sweeney picked up an RBI as he fired a single into left, scoring Gage Griggs from second with the two-out base hit.
- B7: Stepping to the plate as a pinch hitter, Cayden Gaskin walked off the Spartans with a solo homer to right.
