SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Following the morning practices, strength training, and exhibitions, the Michael Antoniewicz era officially begins as Upstate Men's Soccer hosts Georgia State University for their season opener at County University Soccer Stadium under the lights at 7:00 P.M.

Players to Watch 

Upstate: Sophomore Forward, Oskar Kaufmann will look to continue his success in his collegiate career after a historic freshman season at NCAA Division II, Coker University. Kaufmann was named the SAC Freshman of the Year in 2024 where he appeared in 19 games while starting in 14. Kaufmann added 12 goals scored with seven assists and 31 points on 33 shots. Kaufmann has adjusted to Upstate well with a familiar coaching style from Michael Antoniewicz, Matthew Dunn, and Tony Vu, all coaching him during his freshman season at Coker. Kaufmann will look to take on his sophomore season with more focus and a willingness to help the Spartans start the season strong. 

Georgia State: Senior Forward, Matthew Taylor returns to the Panthers after appearing 16 games while starting in six during the 2024 season. Taylor added four goals scored, eight points, and 10 shots for Georgia State with a .400 shot percentage. Taylor will look forward to opening his senior season with hopes of adding more to his resume and continuing their streak over the Spartans.

Following the home opener, Upstate will make their way to Lynchburg, Virginia where the Spartans will take on Liberty University for a non-conference battle Sunday, August 24th with a start time at 5:00 P.M.
