Men’s Soccer second half comeback halted on the road against Liberty; Josh Zawlocki adds first collegiate goal in the battle

LYNCHBURG, VA. - Following a 2-2 draw in the season opener against Georgia State, Upstate Men's Soccer hit the road for their first regular season road trip taking on Liberty University where the Flames outdueled the Spartans with a 3-1 finish.

The first half opened with the Flames starting fast, scoring their first two goals through the first 14 minutes. The Spartans looked to get their offense going with Lucas Bergfors having a one-on-one opportunity, but Liberty kept Upstate scoreless before Bergfors could attempt a shot. As the half grew into the final minute, Liberty grew their lead to 3-0 with a trifecta goal to lead at the half. The second half began with the Spartans looking to regroup as Oskar Kaufmann took the first shot of the half. With Upstate's offense continuing to make strides, a corner kick from Vitalis Takawira Jr. Resulted in multiple touches in the box before Josh Zawlocki finished the play for his first collegiate goal. With under 10 minutes left, the Spartans continued to look for answers in making a comeback but the Flames were able to slow down Upstate's momentum to hold onto the lead and take the win.
