LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Returning to the Bluegrass State, USC Upstate women's soccer took on the Louisville Cardinals this afternoon. The final score of the contest was 9-0 in favor of the Cardinals.
Just two minutes into the match, Upstate claimed the first shot of the game, courtesy of freshman
Morgan Nelson. Facing a tough backline for Louisville, sophomore
Caroline Simpkins was the other Spartan to get a shot off.
Out of the halftime break, the Cardinals found their rhythm. Goalkeepers
Marley Gerber and
Avery Heeb both saw action in today's match. Gerber collected three saves on the day, while Heeb racked up eight.

How It Happened
1st Half: Morgan Nelson took the first shot of the match just two minutes. The Cardinals then rattled off six consecutive shots, netting their first goal of the game at the 19-minute mark. Goalkeeper
Avery Heeb entered for
Marley Gerber at the 29-minute mark. Louisville netted its second goal just seconds before the halftime break.
2nd Half: The Cardinals found their rhythm out of the break, netting seven goals throughout the second half.
Caroline Simpkins got a shot off in the 54th minute. Goalkeeper
Avery Heeb made seven saves throughout the half.
