MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Wrapping its play on the opening weekend of the new season, USC Upstate volleyball kept its momentum rolling from its Friday finale, keeping its brooms handy as it earned another straight set victory. The Spartans swept Northwestern State, closing the Rumble at the Roane with a pair of victories and six straight set wins.

How It Happened
Leading to the team's second straight victory, Upstate continued to press the service game in its third and final match of the weekend, ending with double-digit service aces for the third consecutive match—for comparison, the Spartans had three such matches last season. Upstate closed the match with 11 winners spread across six servers.
 
Sophomore defensive specialist Hannah Campbell tied a career-high with three service aces, collecting multiple aces for the third time this season. Two other Spartans, freshman outside hitter Summer Kohler and freshman libero Sophia Overholt, landed multiple winners, earning three and two, respectively, both career-high totals.
 
Adding to her three service aces, Kohler, for the second time this season, paced the Upstate offense with 14 kills, tying her career-high, posting her total behind a career-best .278 hitting efficiency (min. 12 kills). Joining Kohler in double-figures in the termination column, senior middle blocker Ady O'Grady threw down 12 kills (.571 hitting efficiency), hitting the double-digit mark in all three games played this weekend.
 
Defensively, Overholt paced all Spartan backliners with 14 digs, reaching double-digit scoops for the second time in her career. Campbell finished the afternoon a ball shy of double-figures, tallying nine digs.
 
Notable

• Landing 11 service aces Saturday against Northwestern State, Upstate secured its fourth straight match with 10 or more aces dating back to last season. The team's three such matches in 2025 equal the team's 2024 total.

Following the season's opening weekend, USC Upstate returns to the G.B. Hodge Center for the first time in the new campaign. The Spartans host Queens in the team's home opener, seeing first serve set for 6 p.m. ET next Wednesday.
