ELON, N.C. - Continuing their road trip, Upstate Men's Soccer traveled to Elon, North Carolina taking on Coastal Athletic Association opponent, Elon University serving as the first meeting between both opponents in program history. The Phoenix scored a goal at the 25th minute holding onto their lead through the second half winning 1-0. 

Elon opened the first half aggressively, testing their luck with multiple shots through the first 15 minutes but the quick reflexes from Jarrett Wuerslin resulted in four consecutive saves. The Phoenix responded after a foul from the Spartans scoring a goal at the 25th minute jumping ahead. The Spartans looked to tie going into the half with two consecutive shots from Lucas Bergfors and Vitalis Takawira Jr, but the Phoenix held firm for a 1-0 lead at the break. The Spartans opened the second half taking early shots on frame looking to get the momentum going on their side. The Phoenix looked to extend their lead continuing to test the Spartans on defense but Jarrett Wuerslin proceeded to add five more saves in the second half keeping the Phoenix stagnant. With multiple attempts with a chance of a draw, the Phoenix held on for the 1-0 victory.

Notable 

• The week of Sept. 8- Sept. 13 is the first time for Upstate Men's Soccer that they were shut out in both matches since the week of Oct. 21-26, 2024. 

• In goal, Jarrett Wuerslin added his season-high with nine saves in goal, shattering his original season-high of five saves. 

• Elon outshot the Spartans with 19 shots total (11 on goal) compared to Upstate's eight shots (one on goal).

Following their road match at Elon, the Spartans return to the County University Soccer Stadium reigniting the crosstown rivalry with Wofford on Tuesday, September 16th with kick-off set at 7:00 P.M.
