CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Repeating what has become an every-week occurrence for the program, as it's been accomplished twice in as many weeks, USC Upstate volleyball earned multiple Big South weekly award honorees, bringing home the league's Player, Setter, and Freshman of the Week. The conference announced Monday that
Ady O'Grady and
Kamyla Vega David earned their second consecutive Player and Setter of the Week nods while
Kensley Haneline captured her first career Freshman of the Week accolade.
Hailing from Hilton Head Island, S.C., O'Grady, the Big South's leader in hitting efficiency, paced the league in the category, posting a .409 mark, fashioning single-match hitting efficiencies greater than .500 on two occasions, the only conference player with multiple such matches between Sep. 1 and Sep. 7. She ranked second among league players in total kills and points, accruing 55 terminations and 60.0 points, posting 14 or more kills in three of four matches.
Vega David, a native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, led all Big South setters in total assists and assists per set, posting 164 helpers at an average of 10.93 per set. Her assist total ranked second among all NCAA setters as she exited the weekend ranked fourth in the NCAA in total assists. She complemented her assist totals with three double-doubles (49 digs), 11 total blocks, eight kills, and three service aces.
A Shelby, N.C. native, Haneline headlined all league freshmen in total blocks, producing 17 on the week at a clip of 1.13 blocks per set, including a career-high eight versus North Alabama. She fashioned 46 kills behind a .333 hitting efficiency—second best among conference freshmen—while accruing 56.5 total points (3.77 per set). Closing the weekend at the Blazer Invitational, she twice put down a career-high kill total, capping the tournament with 15 kills versus Tennessee Tech.
