Maddie Drerup’s loaded week in the circle earns her Big South Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Big South Conference announced weekly awards from performances during the week of March 16 through March 22nd for Player of the Week honors where Senior Pitcher, Maddie Drerup was named as the Big South Pitcher of the Week.

The Senior from Fort Mill, South Carolina had a busy week in the circle appearing in four games and starting in three where she earned wins in all three games started in. Drerup opened the week with a game one win over Furman where she struck out four batters. Maddie Drerup followed with opening conference play against the preseason favorite, Radford with her fourth shutout win of the season, striking out three batters and not allowing a run through nine innings. On day two of the weekend series, Drerup made an appearance as the relief pitcher in game two of the series where she struck out a batter and did not allow a run to come home earning her second save of the season for the series clinching win. In game three of the series, Drerup started and tied her season-high with five strikeouts. Drerup halted the rally from Radford following two rain delays and helped the Spartans secure a weekend series sweep. Drerup finished the weekend with a 2.06 ERA, two complete games, one shutout, one save, and nine strikeouts. Maddie Drerup continues to have the trust of her peers along with Head Coach, Chris Hawkins and assistant coach, Tonya Medders. On the season, Drerup is ranked first in the Big South with 11 wins, third with two saves, third in the ERA column, and second with 101.2 innings pitched on the season. Maddie Drerup has collected a weekly award through each season of play and now adds her fourth career weekly honor.
