Kayla McGuffey is in her fourth season with the USC Upstate softball program and second as the volunteer assistant coach.

Her primary responsibilities include assisting with defense, team travel and serves as the program’s camp director.

McGuffey played four seasons at Morehead State (2014-17) where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. She compiled a career batting average of .290 highlighted by a .353 campaign as a sophomore in 2015. As a senior, she hit .310 with eight RBI. For her career, McGuffey had 50 stolen bases in 59 attempts.

The Mooresville, N.C. native graduated from Lake Norman High School in 2013 and was a four-year starter in center field. She collected 58 career stolen bases and helped lead the team to four conference championships. In her final three years, McGuffey was named All-District, All-Region, All-Conference and All-State. She was selected as the Statesville Record, Landmark County, Mooresville Weekly and Lake Norman Area Player of the Year as a senior.

McGuffey also excelled in the classroom at Lake Norman receiving NCHSAA Scholar-Athlete accolades four times.

She received her master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Purdue Global University in 2019.
