Box Score

Spartanburg, S.C. - Wofford scored a goal in each half and held off USC Upstate for a 2-0 victory Friday night at Wofford in the Wofford/Nike Classic at Snyder Field.

Upstate will take a day off before heading back to the field to take on Furman Sunday afternoon at 1:00 in both team's final game of the tournament. Furman tied Georgia State, 2-2, in the first game Friday night. With the loss, Upstate fell to 1-4-0 on the year, while Wofford improved to 4-3-0.

Upstate and Wofford battled throughout the first half with neither team able to crack through with a goal. As time wound down before halftime, Wofford mounted an attack that resulted in back-to-back corner kicks. On the second corner kick, Ethan Miller played a cross over the defenders and to the feet of Alexander Drummond who took the ball and put the shot in the back of the net to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute.

The score remained 1-0 for over 20 minutes into the second half when Wofford scored to put the game out of reach for Upstate. Wilson Hood broke free from the defense and went one-on-one with Spartan keeper Peter Davis and put the shot past Davis to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute. It would be all of the scoring in the game as Wofford keeper Joey Taylor made three saves to keep the Spartans off of the scoreboard.

"I thought we played okay," said Upstate head coach Greg Hooks. "We made a couple of mistakes which led to the two Wofford goals. I thought our guys played hard, but we just didn't get it done tonight."

Wofford outshot Upstate 19-7 for the game and held an 8-2 lead in corner kicks. Davis led Upstate with eight saves.
