Upstate Falls to Charleston Southern, 5-0

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's soccer team fell by a score of 5-0 to Charleston Southern at Blackbaud Stadium. With the loss, the Spartans dip to 0-3-0 on the season while the Bucs improve to 3-0-0.

The Bucs got the scoring started in the first half on a goal by Marky Boyce at the 5:47 mark. CSU tacked on one more first half goal when Michelle Dennis scored in the 28th minute.

CSU increased their lead to 3-0 when Sarah Catenacci scored in the first two and a half minutes of the second period. The Bucs posted two more goals, both off of the foot of Morgann Wood, en route to the 5-0 victory.

Sian Jenkins started in goal for the Spartans on Tuesday and the freshman recorded a career high nine saves. Jenkins nine saves are an Upstate single game record for a freshman (Division I era).

Upstate spent most of the match on defense as they were outshot 39-1 by the CSU. The Bucs posted 14 shots on goal compared to just one for the Spartans. Upstate's lone shot on goal came from sophomore Ashleigh Barkley. The Bucs recorded seven corner kicks in the match compared to zero for the visiting Spartans.

Upstate will return to the pitch on Thursday night when they host Gardner-Webb in a makeup game from last Friday night. The match at County University Soccer Stadium is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
