KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State netted two second-half goals as they up-ended the visiting USC Upstate women's soccer team, 2-0, on Friday night at the KSU Soccer Stadium

"We played well on the defensive end in the first half, but we had some let downs in the second" said head coach Renee Lopez.  "We also failed to capitalize on our opportunities and we will look to fix these issues before facing Mercer on Sunday."

Despite being outshot 12-2 in the first period, the Spartans (3-11-2, 1-5-2) and Owls were tied 0-0 at intermission.

In the 49^th-minute KSU did something that two of the top teams in the A-Sun (Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast) failed to do a week ago, which was put a shot past Upstate goalkeeper Rachel Collins (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive).  Alma Gardarsdottir's goal ended Collins' scoreless streak at 295:44.

Upstate had a chance to tie the match at 1-1, but Alyssa Roegner's (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) shot was saved by the Owls goalkeeper, Staci Pugh.

KSU pushed its lead to 2-0, which proved to be the finally tally, when Brittany Vining scored in the 80^th-minute.

The Owls outshot the Spartans 22-4, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on-goal.  KSU also led the way in corners with a 3-1 advantage.  Rachel Collins made seven saves for the Spartans, while KSU made a total of two.  Staci Pugh played the first 82:21 of the match, while Melissa Hutto played the final 7:39.

Upstate committed eight fouls in the match while the Owls committed three fouls and were whistled for one offsides penalty.

Upstate will return to action Sunday as it closes out the road portion of its 2010 slate at Mercer.  Kick-off between the Spartans and the Bears is slated for 2:00 p.m.
