Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's
soccer squad fell on Sunday afternoon to visiting Jacksonville,
4-0, at County University Soccer Stadium.
Jacksonville (7-6-1, 2-3-0) scored what proved to be the
game-winner as Tyler Williams found the back of the net in the
seventh-minute from the left side of the box.
Upstate (1-9-3, 0-6-0) had two chances to tie the match in the
10th-minute but Colin
Francis (Toronto, Ontario/Father Leo J. Austin) and Jan Wienholt
(Bocholt, Germany/Gymnasium) had their shots saved by Dolphin
goalkeeper Zach Greenwald.
The Dolphins netted their second goal of the half when Nedim
Hurstic scored from the left side in the
15th-minute. Jacksonville tacked on its third goal
of the half when Daniele Campailla scored in the
35th-minute to give the Dolphins a 3-0 lead, one they
would carry to the locker room at halftime.
The Dolphins set the final tally at 4-0 when Campailla netted
his second goal of the match in the 59th-minute.
Jacksonville outshot the Spartans 15-10 and led the way in shots
on-goal 12-5. The Spartans took a total of seven corner kicks
in the match, while the Dolphins had six. Jacksonville
committed 11 fouls and was whistled offsides four times, while
Upstate had eight fouls and one offsides penalty.
Upstate goalkeeper Jason
McCabe (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork) recorded seven saves and the
Spartans also had a team save. Meanwhile, Dolphin goalkeeper
Zach Greenwald made five saves on Sunday.
Upstate will return to action next weekend of a tour through the
Music City as they face off against Lipscomb and Belmont.
