Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team fell on Senior Day to the ETSU Bucs, 1-0, in overtime on Sunday afternoon at County University Soccer Stadium.

Prior to the match, Upstate (3-13-2, 1-7-2) honored its four departing seniors, Oleva DuRant, Catherine Nolff, Alyssa Roegner and Leigh Ward.

"Today was a tough battle for our team and it was also very emotional as we honored four great individuals," said head coach Renee Lopez.  "Our seniors gave everything that had not only today but throughout the season and I am so proud of them and wish them nothing but the best in the future."

Upstate nearly took a 1-0 advantage in the second-minute, but Upstate's Leigh Ward (Summerville, S.C./Fort Dorchester) had her shot saved by ETSU keeper Megan Masch.

ETSU (8-7-2, 4-5-1) had a scoring opportunity in the fourth-minute, but Terri Miller's shot hit the left post and bounced away.

The two teams combined for just five shots in the first half and headed to halftime in a scoreless draw.  In the 53rd-minute, Alyssa Roegner (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) had a clean break from the right side, but ETSU's Masch made a charging save to keep the match scoreless.

In the 79th-minute, the Spartans again had a shot at taking the lead, but again Ward was denied by Masch.

After 90 minutes of play, the two teams remained scoreless and headed for overtime.  In the first overtime period, Terri Miller put her shot from the top of the box past a diving Rachel Collins (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) as ETSU claimed the 1-0 victory and a slot in next week's Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.

On Sunday, Rachel Collins made two saves while ETSU keeper Megan Masch made three.  ETSU was called for eight fouls and one offsides penalty, while Upstate committed seven fouls and one offsides penalty.

ETSU led the way in shots 13-5, but both teams registered three shots on-goal.  ETSU also owned the advantage in corner kicks, 6-0.
