Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jan Wienholt (Bocholt, Germany/Gymnasium) scored his first collegiate goal, but it was not enough as ETSU claimed a 4-1 victory on Wednesday night at County University Soccer Stadium.
Prior to the match, USC Upstate honored its two seniors, Maurice Beggs (Arima, Trinidad/Middle Georgia) and Erkan Yildirim (Flensburg, Germany/Flensburg University).
ETSU (12-4-0, 7-2-0) got on the board first as it took a 1-0 lead in the ninth-minute when Aaron Schoenfeld scored his fourth goal of 2010. After a 32 minute lightning delay the match resumed with 35 minutes remaining on the clock.
The match appeared to head to halftime with ETSU ahead 1-0, but the Bucs tacked on a goal in the 38th-minute to increase the lead to 2-0.
Upstate (1-12-3, 0-9-0) cut the lead in half in the 66th-minute when Jan Wienholt put his header in the back of the net off of a free kick from Timo Foerster (Oberkirk, Germany/Hans Furler Gymnasium).
Less than four minutes later ETSU again pushed the lead to 3-1 on Itode Fubara's third goal of the season. The Bucs set the final margin at 4-1 on Aaron Schoenfeld's second goal.
ETSU led the way in shots (21-5) and shots on-goal (12-2). The Bucs also held a 7-2 advantage in corners.
Upstate's Jason McCabe (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork) recorded eight saves, while ETSU's Ronnie Hreha made one.
Each team was whistled for eight fouls, while the Bucs were called offsides once.
