Spartans Drop River City Finale

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In the second and final game of a two-match road swing in the River City, the USC Upstate women's soccer team fell to North Florida, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Hodges Stadium.

Upstate's Kayli Moore (Severna Park, Md./St. Mary's) recorded the first shot of the match just 32 seconds in, but her shot was saved by UNF goalkeeper Brittany Hahn.

"Our team, especially the younger players, gained a little more insight into what it takes to compete in the Atlantic Sun," said head coach Renee Lopez.  "We will use this week to refocus and prepare for next weekend."

In the third-minute, the Spartans (3-10-0, 1-4-0 A-Sun) again had a chance at taking an early lead, but Jessica Jackrya's (Cary, N.C./Apex) shot was denied by Hahn.

Moore's second shot of the match in the seventh-minute sailed over the crossbar.

The Ospreys (5-8-0, 4-2-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 13th-minute when Carolina Lencina scored from the top of the box.  Lencina's fourth goal of the season proved to be the game-winner on Sunday.

UNF tacked on two goals in the second half to set the final margin at 3-0.  Lauren Hopfensperger scored in the 58th and 63rd-minutes to collect her sixth and seventh goals of the season, respectively.

The Ospreys outshot the Spartans 19-6 and held a 12-3 advantage in shots on-goal.  The Ospreys also led the way in corner kicks (10-1).

Upstate goalkeeper Rachel Collins (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) made eight saves in 90 minutes of action and the Spartans picked up a team save.  UNF made three saves in the match.

Each team committed six fouls, while Upstate was offsides two times, compared to one for UNF.

Upstate will return to action on Friday night when it hosts Stetson.  Kick-off at County University Soccer Stadium is slated for 7:00 p.m.
