
Men's Basketball Goes Greene during Early Signing Period

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ty Greene, a 6-2 shooting guard from Knoxville, Tenn., has signed a national letter of intent and will join the Spartan basketball team beginning with the 2011-12 season.
Greene is a 2011 McDonald's All-American nominee entering his final season at Bearden HS in Knoxville. As a junior, Greene averaged 16.3 ppg, 2.5 spg and 1.5 apg as he shot 48.4% from the floor, 39.4% from beyond the three-point arc and 81.3% from the free throw line.
"Ty is a tremendous athlete and he is a hard-nosed player that can shoot the ball very well," said head coach Eddie Payne. "Ty comes from a very successful high school program and we are excited to have him join our team beginning next season."
Greene helped lead Bearden to the league, district, region and sub-state titles before the team lost in the state semi-finals. He earned district and region MVP honors and was a member of the Division I Class AAA All-State team. He also earned a spot on the All-State Tournament team. Other accolades included: Prep Xtra First-Team, All-KIL First Team, Super 16 Tournament MVP, Landair Classic MVP and he was named Prep Extra Player of the Week once.
As a sophomore, he helped lead Bearden to a berth in the state playoffs and the team finished 35-3. During his time at Bearden, Greene has been named Scholar Athlete of the Year, while serving as the President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has also been a co-captain of the basketball team and selected as a member of the National Junior Honor Society.
