SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate baseball team will enter its first midweek of the season on Tuesday, heading to Atlanta, Ga., to start a home-and-home set with Colonial Athletic Association defending champions, Georgia State, on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Spartans will have a chance to spoil a special day for the Panthers, as Georgia State will unveil its 2009 NCAA Regional and CAA Championship banners prior to the start of Tuesday's game. On Wednesday, Upstate will return home and it will start its 2010 First Pitch program, with Eric Guillen, who completed his eligibility in 2009, throwing out the first pitch before the game.

Upstate will start senior Barrett Stover on Tuesday, as the senior will try to help Upstate try to bounce back after a tough, 3-2 loss to Presbyterian on Sunday. Stover has done his best work in Georgia, as he tossed 6 1/3 innings against Kennesaw State in 2009, allowing just three runs, striking out a career-high four in the outing. Upstate has used many of its 15 newcomers already in the season, with six newcomers and four freshmen entering the lineup on Sunday at Presbyterian. Both junior Joe Barnes and freshman Brody Greer had hits in the game for Upstate.

Quick Hits
• Junior Jimmy Tanner is currently 11th in school history with 183 hits, just nine from the top 10 in school history, where Eric Guillen '09 sits with 192 career hits ... He is eight runs away from becoming the 18th player to reach 100 in a career.

• Sophomore Blake Green is nine hits away from becoming the 45th player in school history to reach 100 career hits.

• Upstate freshmen Ryan Newell and Gaither Bumgardner had an impressive opening weekend, as the two combined to pitch seven innings and allow just one run and two hits. They struck out a combined seven, with Newell punching out five in four innings of scoreless work against Presbyterian on Saturday.

• Sophomore Austin Liput posted his first career triple on Saturday against Presbyterian, leading off the game with the hit ... Liput posted just his fourth career multi-hit game in the effort, finishing 2-for-4.

• Sophomore Tyler Cook posted his second career multi-hit game against the Blue Hose on Saturday as well.

• Senior Tyler Oliver has led the Spartans in appearances in each of the last two years, appearing in 24 games as a junior and 22 as a sophomore, yet he did not appear in a game over the weekend ... He is 18 appearances shy of the school record of 77 set by Dennis McCraney (2006-09).

• The Spartans have four freshmen that were a part of the 2009 SCBCA North/South All-Star weekend in Gaither Bumgardner, Bobby Jackson, McCrae Norton and Brody Greer all appeared at the event.
