Box Score

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Competing in its third road game of the early 2010 season, the USC Upstate men's soccer team fell on the road at Gardner-Webb.  The Bulldogs (2-3-0) claimed the 1-0 victory at Greene-Harbison Field to cut the Spartans lead in the series to 4-2-2.

At the 15:44 mark, GWU midfielder Romeo Kabanda scored his first goal of the season.  Kabanda, who put his shot from the left side of the box in the lower right corner, was assisted by teammate Guy Mbanyamsig.

Upstate (0-2-2) managed just nine shots over the course of the match and only tallied one shot on-goal, which came on Chris McCoy's (Houston, Texas/Tomball) shot in the 53rd-minute.  Meanwhile, the Bulldogs had 13 shots and six directed at the goal.

Upstate keeper Jason McCabe (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork) recorded five saves on Tuesday night.

Upstate's final chance to tie the match came in the 88th-minute, but John Kadane's (Garland, Texas/John Paul II) header went just wide allowing the Bulldogs to escape with the 1-0 victory.

GWU owned a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.  The Bulldogs were called for 18 total fouls, while Upstate was whistled for 14 fouls and two offsides penalties.

The Spartans will return to action on Friday night when they make the short trip down Pine Street to battle the Wofford Terriers.  Kick-off at Synder Field is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
