SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Krystal Hedderman's (Locust Grove, Va.) goal in the 51st-minute notched the game at 1-1, but the Spartans were unable to hold on as Jacksonville claimed a 4-1 victory Friday night at County University Soccer Stadium.

Jacksonville (8-4-2, 4-1-0 Atlantic Sun) scored the first goal of the match in the third-minute when Raquel Weckhurst scored on a pass from Kaitlyn Bassett.  Weckhurst's goal was the lone goal of the first half as the Dolphins had a pair of shots hit the left post.

Shortly after halftime the Spartans (2-11-1, 0-4-0) tied the match at 1-1 when Hedderman scored after the ball bounced to her following a battle in front of the goal.

"I am proud of Krystal Hedderman's effort on the field as she was able to score her first goal in a Spartan uniform," said head coach Renee Lopez.  "The final outcome was a disappointing result for our team after we bounced back and tied the game against the top team in the A-Sun.  We have to regroup for Sunday as we face another tough conference opponent."

The Dolphins regained the lead when Kaitlyn Bassett scored from the right side in the 60th-minute.  Bassett scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a cross from Eva Leeper.

Jacksonville tacked on two more goals in the match to claim the three-goal victory.  Emily Cubreth scored in the 63rd-minute with the final goal coming from Bassett in the 68th-minute.

Sarah Plantz (Cartersville, Ga.) logged all 90 minutes between the pipes and the sophomore tallied five saves Friday night.  Jacksonville split time between goalkeepers as Sarah Sierra and Susanne Klungtveit each recorded one save in the match.

The Dolphins owned a 24-5 advantage in shots and led the match 10-3 in shots on-goal.  Jacksonville also attempted nine corner kicks in the match.

Upstate committed 10 fouls Friday night while Jacksonville committed three fouls and was called offsides three times.

The Spartans close out their two-match homestand Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when the squad hosts North Florida.
