Former Spartan Matt Branham to Start Season with TinCaps

Matt Branham's Career Stats

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Former USC Upstate Spartan pitcher Matt Branham is set to start the season in Fort Wayne (Ind.) as a member of the TinCaps starting rotation.

Earlier this season, Branham was named a top-30 prospect in the San Diego Padres organization after a stellar rookie season that began in Eugene (Ore.) and concluded in Fort Wayne.

As a member of the Eugene Emeralds (Class A – Short Season), Branham posted a 6-3 mark with a 2.97 ERA in 60.2 innings of work.  Branham appeared in 14 games and made 11 starts for the Emeralds and finished the season with 56 strikeouts while opponents hit just .266 off of the right hander.

After Eugene's season ended, Branham was promoted to Fort Wayne for the final week of the season.  He made one appearance for the TinCaps in 2010, pitching just one inning, allowing one run on three hits with a strikeout.

The TinCaps open the season Thursday, April 7 at 7:05 p.m. against the South Bend Silver Hawks (Class-A Arizona Diamondbacks).
