CollegeBaseball360.com Release

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate sophomore pitcher Scott DeCecco (Cape May Courthouse, N.J.) picked up a national honor after tossing seven shutout innings against No. 20 Stetson on Friday night.

DeCecco (3-2) earned a spot on CollegeBaseball360.com's Primetime Performers list for the week of March 28 – April 3 as he helped the Spartans pick up their first-ever Division I win over a nationally-ranked opponent.

The southpaw scattered six hits and three walks during his 117-pitch outing while recording four punch outs.  DeCecco got out of a pair of bases loaded jams in the fifth and sixth innings to preserve the shutout.

Friday's game marked the second consecutive outing in which DeCecco pitched at least seven innings.  He picked up the win on March 25 at Florida Gulf Coast as he allowed four runs on four hits in seven innings on the hill.

Friday's win also marked the third time this season that DeCecco has recorded a quality start.  Against Presbyterian College (Feb. 28) and ETSU (Mar. 4), the lefty pitched six complete innings and allowed just one run in each game.

The shutout of the Hatters marked the second shutout victory of the season for Upstate who earlier this season downed North Florida, 2-0, on March 19.
