Upstate Receives Votes in National Top 25 Polls; Ranked 12th in Mid-Major Top 25 Poll

Complete Mid-Major Top 25 Poll

Spartanburg, S.C. – Following a 6-0 week and improving to 12-0 on the year, the USC Upstate softball team has received votes in both national top 25 polls and moved up seven positions and is ranked No. 12 in the latest Mid-Major Top 25 poll released by midmajorpoll.blogspot.com.

Upstate received two votes in the NFCA Top 25 poll. The Spartans received the same number of votes as Kentucky and Oregon State, and within four votes of Arkansas, Purdue, New Mexico State and Syracuse. If the poll was extended past the top 25, Upstate would be tied for 38th. The Spartans received one vote in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll, the same number as BYU, Ohio State and North Carolina State. If the poll was extended past the top 25, Upstate would be ranked tied for 35th.

Louisiana-Lafayette, which is ranked in the three national polls, tops the Mid-Major Top 25 poll with 74 points. Hawaii is second with 73 points and is followed in the top 10 by Fresno State (68), New Mexico (66), San Diego State (62), UMass (60), New Mexico State (57), BYU (53), Tulsa (50) and McNeese State (47). North Dakota State is 11th with 42 points, one spot ahead of Upstate in 12th with 39 points.

Upstate is one of two A-Sun schools ranked in the mid-major poll. Stetson, with 14 points, is ranked 21st.

Upstate will play seven games this week. The Spartans hit the road today to face Furman in Greenville, S.C., before returning home to host the Subway Spartan Classic Friday-Sunday at Cyrill Stadium, playing two games against Dayton and N.C. Central and one against Appalachian State.
