ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team allowed four first-half goals on Friday evening and fell 6-0 at the hands of the Navy Midshipmen at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in non-conference action.

The Spartans (1-2) drop their second contest of the year in their current two-game road swing, while the Midshipmen (2-1) win consecutive games after dropping their season opener to 13th-ranked Maryland.

Navy jumped all over Upstate early, scoring a pair of goals in the first eight minutes and four in the first half.

Paloma Perez got the scoring barrage started in just the fourth minute when she took a cross from Taylor Batye and finished for her first goal of the season.

Perez found herself on the other end of the action just four minutes later when she sent a cross in the box and Ashlynn Soellner settled the pass and finished to give Navy an early 2-0 advantage.

The Upstate offensive attack finally came to life in the 10th minute when Michelle Calmeyn fired the Spartans first shot of the game, but the attempt was blocked to keep the sophomore from scoring in consecutive games.

Navy answered Upstate's first shot of the game with its seventh shot of the contest, a strike that also resulted in the third goal of the game for the Midshipmen at the 15:01 mark. Perez was again the striker as she took a long pass, raced ahead of the Spartan defenders and finished for her second goal of the period.

With time ticking away in the final minute of the first half, the Navy offense added to its lead when Kayli Davidson drilled a shot from 25 yards out to give the Midshipmen a 4-0 cushion heading to intermission.

The Midshipmen tallied the first of two second-half goals in the 72nd minute when Sarah Martella lined up a corner kick and found Davidson in the box who headed home her second goal of the game.

Caprice Kelty put a lid on the Navy scoring in the 82nd minute when she fired a shot from 12 yards out and finished inside the left post to give the Midshipmen a 6-0 lead, an advantage that turned into the final margin of victory.

Sarah Plantz suffered the loss for the Spartans, falling to 1-2 on the year as she recorded a season-high nine saves but allowed all six Navy goals. Elizabeth Hoerner picked up the win for Navy in goal as she held Upstate scoreless and tallied one save.

The Spartans will now make the four hour trek to Lynchburg, Va., to battle Liberty University on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Osborne Stadium.
