JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The USC Upstate volleyball team (4-8, 0-2 A-Sun) dropped a 3-0 decision Friday at Atlantic Sun Conference foe ETSU (10-6, 1-1 A-Sun) by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-15.
Sophomore Kayla McAvoy (Boiling Springs, S.C.) led the Spartans with 11 kills for her fourth-straight double-digit kill outing. Upstate senior Emily Sanders (Sullivan, Ill.) recorded her eighth double-double of the season, handing out 24 assists and scooping up a team-high 14 digs.
ETSU was led by a pair of double-doubles from Ivey Rice and Megan Devine. Rice posted a match-high 16 kills and 12 digs, while Devine had 15 kills and a match-best 19 digs. Meredith Hardy contributed to the Buccaneer cause with nine kills and five assisted blocks.
Two other Buccaneer players registered double-figure digs on the night. Jamie Rutledge added 12 digs, while Katie Muey had 10 digs.
Senior Emily Bingham (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and freshman Kayla Eversgerd (Breese, Ill.) helped the Spartan offensive efforts, tallying seven kills each. Defensively, Eversgerd added 10 digs and one assisted block, while Bingham had four digs and two assisted denials.
Other Spartan diggers on the night included junior Morgan Page (Woodstock, Ga.) and freshman Lexi Gober (Edwardsville, Ill.). Page collected 11 digs, while Gober recorded her second-straight double-figure dig effort with 10 digs. Senior Mindy Quimby (Keenesburg, Colo.) added nine digs for Upstate to go along with two kills.
The Spartans return to action Tuesday, traveling to near-by Gardner-Webb for a 7 p.m. contest.
