Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team hits the road this weekend for two Atlantic Sun matchups against the North Florida Ospreys and Jacksonville Dolphins.
Upstate kicks off the weekend Friday evening at 7 p.m. against the Ospreys followed by a 3 p.m. matchup Saturday afternoon with the Dolphins.
The Spartans head into the weekend fresh off a three-set sweep Tuesday night against the Mercer Bears in Spartanburg. In the contest, sophomore outside hitter Kayla Eversgerd and sophomore right side Shannon Weiss each tallied double-digit kills, while sophomore setter Lexi Gober recorded her eighth double-double of the season. Senior setter Amanda Carroll had a match-high 16 digs while senior libero Morgan Page added 15.
Eversgerd continues to pace Upstate both offensively and defensively as she leads the team with 207 kills and 196 digs. She is averaging over three kills and three digs per set. Gober has a team-best 572 assists, 15 service aces and .270 hitting percentage on the season. Freshman middle blocker Emily Koelling ranks first on the team with 35 total blocks and is second with 149 kills.
North Florida currently sits in seventh place of the A-Sun standings with a 2-5 conference record and 6-12 overall mark. The Ospreys are under the direction of second-year head coach Steve Loeswick. UNF leads the all-time series over Upstate 12-3.
Jacksonville is second behind East Tennessee State in the conference standings at 6-1, while posting the best overall record in the league at 16-2. The Dolphins are led by first-year head coach Michelle Collier. JU holds a 7-2 all-time series lead against the Spartans.
Upstate returns to the G.B. Hodge Center Tuesday, Oct. 22 for a 6 p.m. contest against the Kennesaw State Owls.
