Upstate Heads to East Tennessee State Friday Evening

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team hits the road for one match this weekend as it travels to Johnson City, Tenn. to face the league-leading East Tennessee State Buccaneers in a 7 p.m. match at Brooks Gymnasium.

Upstate is coming off its second straight home victory Tuesday night against Kennesaw State, sweeping the Owls in straight sets 3-0. In the match, the Spartans out-hit KSU .336 to .078 as a team and totaled 47 kills to Kennesaw State's 32. Kayla Eversgerd recorded a match-high 17 kills while Emily Koelling added 10. Alexa Lagaly just missed her second double-double of the season with nine kills and 10 digs. Lexi Gober posted 30 assists and seven digs to the effort, while Amanda Carroll had 10 assists. Morgan Page led the team with 20 digs.

Eversgerd leads Upstate's offense and defense this season with 254 kills and 238 digs. Gober has a team-best 660 assists, 18 service aces and .270 hitting percentage. Koelling is first on the team with 39 total blocks and second with 177 kills. Eversgerd is sixth in the conference in kills, Gober ranks ninth in assists and Morgan Page is sixth in digs.

The Buccaneers are led by 11th-year head coach Lindsey Devine, who holds a 179-161 career record. East Tennessee State is currently tied for first place in the conference standings along with Jacksonville.

The all-time series with ETSU dates back to the 2007 season. The Buccaneers lead the overall series 8-3. The Buccaneers swept Upstate on Sept. 26 in Spartanburg 3-0, and won the last match in Johnson City 3-0 on Sept. 21, 2012.
