Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team will play its final two games on the road this weekend as the Spartans travel to take on the Stetson Hatters and Florida Gulf Coast Eagles in Atlantic Sun action.
Head coach Jennifer Calloway looks to achieve a career milestone over the weekend. With a win, Calloway will record her 300th career victory. She has coached her entire 18-year career with the Spartans, and currently holds a 299-271 overall record.
Upstate is coming off their third home win of the season following a thrilling 3-2 non-conference victory Tuesday night against Presbyterian College in Spartanburg. The Spartans had four players finish with double-doubles lead by Kayla Eversgerd with 17 kills and 15 digs. Lexi Gober, Amanda Carroll and Alexa Lagaly also had double-doubles.
Eversgerd leads the Spartans this season with 283 kills and 266 digs. Gober has a team-best 728 assists, 23 service aces and .282 hitting percentage. Emily Koelling is first on the team with 40 total blocks and second with 202 kills. Eversgerd is sixth in the conference in kills, Gober ranks ninth in assists and Morgan Page is fourth in digs per set with 4.05.
The Hatters are under the direction of third-year head coach Tim Loesch. He is 152-174 in 10 seasons as a head coach and 29-60 with Stetson. The Hatters lead the all-time series over the Spartans 8-3. Stetson won 3-0 in Spartanburg on Oct. 12.
FGCU is led by head coach Dave Nichols, who is in his 18th season overall as a coach and sixth with the Eagles. He has a 372-177 all-time coaching record and 96-77 mark at FGCU. The Eagles lead the all-time series against Upstate 10-0. FGCU won in five sets, 3-2, against the Spartans Oct. 11 in Spartanburg.
Upstate returns to the G.B. Hodge Center next weekend as it hosts Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb.
