Spartanburg, S.C. – Tabby Tindell scored her conference-leading 13th goal and Florida Gulf Coast won its fifth straight game following a 3-0 victory over the USC Upstate women's soccer team Friday night from County University Soccer Stadium.
Tindell registered the game-winning goal early in the first half when she used a right-footed strike from the right wing to beat Upstate keeper Ellen Bright far post in the 17th minute.
Florida Gulf Coast added a second goal minutes before halftime on a shot from Paulina Speckmaier in the 40th minute. Kaitlin Parker picked up an assist on the play as she setup Speckmaier for a shot just outside the Upstate box that snuck over the outstretched hands of a leaping Bright.
The Eagles finished the first half with a 9-2 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Paige Law scored her first goal of the season to put the Eagles ahead 3-0 in the 84th minute. Melissa Arnold used a cross from the right side of the field that found of the feet of Speckmaier inside the Spartan box. Speckmaier pushed a pass to her right where a waiting Law delivered a strike into the corner of the net.
"This was a solid performance for our team against a really powerful team," USC Upstate head coach Abby Minihan said. "Every year Florida Gulf Coast is the team to beat in this league, and despite the result, I am pleased with the progress we are making."
Kenzie Major led Upstate with two shots on goal, while Bright finished with five saves.
Upstate returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Spartans host Stetson from County University Soccer Stadium.
