Greene, Miller Lead Upstate Past Cal State Fullerton

Spartanburg, S.C. – Ty Greene and Fred Miller combined for 54 points to lead USC Upstate to a 79-64 victory over Cal State Fullerton Friday evening from the Hodge Center in the fourth game of the Spartanburg Marriott Upstate Classic.

Greene finished with a career-high 29 points to go along with four assists and three steals, while Miller poured in a career-high 25 points and a season-high six assists. The duo accounted for 38 straight points that spanned the final 13:20 of the first half and the opening 3:47 of the second half.

Miller scored the first nine points of the second half to ignite a 17-2 run over the first 5:44 to help Upstate build 50-38 lead after trailing by three points at halftime.

Lanerryl Johnson pulled Cal State Fullerton within seven points midway through the half, but the Spartans scored the next eight points, which included the final five from Greene, to open up a 65-50 lead with just over five minutes remaining. Johnson finished with a career-high 31 points and five three-pointers.

Upstate would go on to lead by as many as 18 points and has won by at least 13 points in all five of its victories this season. The Spartans rank first in the Atlantic Sun in average margin of victory at 19.8 points per game.

The Spartans also registered 12 steals to finish in double digits for the fourth time this season. Upstate leads the conference with 12.7 per game with Greene sitting atop the standings with 2.5 per game.

Upstate looks for a perfect 3-0 record in the tournament Saturday at 6 p.m. when the Spartans host Wright State.
