Spartanburg, S.C. – Robby Rinn and Matt Albanese each had four hits and Bryant used a balanced offensive attack on its way to a 21-4 victory over USC Upstate Sunday afternoon in the rubber match from Harley Park.

Bryant (2-4) jumped out to an early lead when the Bulldogs got back-to-back home runs from Albanese and AJ Zarozny in the top of the first inning. Center fielder Carl Anderson put Bryant ahead 3-0 in the fourth inning with his RBI groundout on the infield.

Upstate (5-7) struck for three runs in its half of the sixth inning to pull even with the Bulldogs. Stephen Dowling drew a walk to lead off the inning and moved to second when Erik Samples was hit by a pitch in the following at bat. After Zach Krider drew a walk to load the bases, Dowling scampered home during the next at bat on a wild pitch by Bulldog reliever Jack Patterson. Designated hitter Brian Thompson then walked to load the bases, and a groundout on the infield from Luke Weber brought home Samples from third. Upstate picked up its final run of the inning on a balk charged to Jonathan Cohen.

The Bulldogs broke open the game in the next half inning, erupting for 14 runs on 15 hits to regain the lead. AJ Mackey added an RBI single for the Spartans in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Cohen picked up his first win of the season after pitching two innings in relief and allowing just one hit. Spartan reliever Tresco Shannon (1-1) suffered the loss after giving up five runs on five hits.

Tyler Lesch went 3-for-5 to post his team-high fifth game of the season with at least two hits.

USC Upstate returns to action Tuesday at 5 p.m. when the Spartans head south to Greenville, S.C., to take on Furman from Fluor Field.
