Spartanburg, S.C. – Furman scored three goals over a 12:05 stretch in the first half and extended its winning streak to three games following a 3-0 victory over the USC Upstate women's soccer team Sunday afternoon from County University Stadium.
Carlie Couch opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with her first goal of the season. India Robinson set the scoring opportunity in motion with a pass from midfield that found a streaking Couch down the right sideline. Couch controlled the ball and fired a shot that beat a charging Ellen Bright far post with the game-winning goal.
Couch struck again in the 37th minute for her second goal of the game, this time using a feed from Alyssa Althoff to once again send a shot from the right wing to beat Bright far post.
Molly Dwyer capped the scoring for the Paladins when she connected 45 second shy of halftime for her second goal of the season. Dwyer received a pass from Rachel Shah and followed with a strike from the left wing that found its way into the upper corner of the Upstate goal.
"I thought that Furman really controlled play today and didn't allow us to get comfortable in any of our sets," Upstate head coach Abby Minihan said. "We knew coming in that they had some real playmakers, and I think they showed just how good they are when they create scoring chances. We will get back to work this week and focus on what we have to do to improve going forward."
USC Upstate returns to action Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. when the Spartans host High Point in the second game of the Border Classic Tournament from County University Stadium.
