Greenville, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Furman Tuesday from the Mickel Tennis Center in the team's first road match of the season.
Furman won the doubles point and built a 1-0 lead by taking matches at the No. 3 and No. 2 positions. Jacob Behal and Stefan Rhodes posted a 6-0 win over Rajanvir Dharni and Matt Bennion at No. 3 before Adam Steryous and Cameron Green clinched the point with a 6-1 win at No. 2 over Viktor Selander and John Giakoumakis.
Matt Browne put the Paladins ahead 2-0 when he earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Selander from the No. 2 singles position. Ben Horst pushed the lead to 3-0 following his 6-0, 6-2 victory over Dharni from No. 3.
Steryous turned in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ramon Simonetti at No. 1 to put Furman ahead 4-0 and seal the victory for the Paladins.
Upstate returns to action Friday at 12:30 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Wilmington, N.C., to face UNC Wilmington from the UNCW Tennis Complex.
