Stetson Earns 1-0 Victory over Upstate Sunday Afternoon

Annette Morton scored in the 12th minute of play to lift the Stetson Hatters to a 1-0 victory over the USC Upstate women's soccer team Sunday afternoon in A-Sun play at the Athletic Training Center.

Upstate falls to 2-11-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the conference, while Stetson improves to 8-5-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in league play.

Making her first start of the season and second of her career, Brooke Bailey recorded a career-high seven saves in net for the Spartans. Ellen Bright came on in the second half and finished with three saves. Rachel Baylor, Kate Winegarner and Kenzie Major each attempted two shots in the match.

Janina Scharnbacher tallied one save for the Hatters while Sarah Collins logged four shots.

Morton collected her first goal of the season in the 12th minute with Mara Keomanivane picking up the assist. Stetson was awarded a corner kick and Keomanivane placed her cross into the box where Morton placed her header past Bailey.

Upstate returns to County University Soccer Stadium on Friday, Oct. 16 as it hosts Jacksonville at 7 p.m.
