North Florida Scores Twice to Defeat Upstate in Regular Season Finale

Jacksonville, Fla. – Alex Morrell and Helge Pietschmann each scored for North Florida Saturday evening as the Ospreys defeated the USC Upstate men's soccer team 2-0 in the regular season finale from Hodges Stadium.

Upstate falls to 5-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the A-Sun, while North Florida improves to 8-6-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in league play.

The Spartans have earned the fourth seed in next week's A-Sun Men's Soccer Championship and will play fifth-seeded Jacksonville Thursday, Nov. 5 in Fort Myers, Fla. Upstate has now earned back-to-back trips to the A-Sun Men's Soccer Championship for the first time since joining the conference.

The Spartans defeated Jacksonville 3-1 at Southern Oak Stadium on Oct. 3 behind two goals and one assist from Gordon Wild. Heiko Allmendinger also had a goal as Upstate won its first A-Sun game of the season. The Spartans will be facing Jacksonville for the first time in tournament play.

Morrell put the Ospreys on the scoreboard first just before halftime as his goal in the 45th minute gave UNF a 1-0 lead. He picked up a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box and curled his shot into the right side of the net past Upstate goalie Hassan Haddad.

Pietschmann added to North Florida's lead in the 78th minute as his fourth goal of the season made the score 2-0 with Ivan Castro receiving the assist.

Wild led the Spartans with two shots, including one on-goal, in the contest while Haddad added four saves.

Milan Kovacs attempted a team-high three shots for the Ospreys and was one of six players with one attempt on-goal. UNF goalie Kyle Nasta grabbed one save in net.
