Spartanburg, S.C. – Keaton Hinze scored the game-winning goal just under a minute into overtime to lead Wofford to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over USC Upstate Saturday evening from County University Soccer Stadium.
Nestor Jaramillo started the scoring opportunity in the 91st minute with a pass from the right side of the field that found a streaking Hinze for a right-footed shot to beat Upstate keeper Hassan Haddad far post.
Upstate built a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when Gordon Wild netted his seventh goal of the season in the 26th minute. Wild took a pass from Leon Schwarzer and dribbled through two Wofford defenders before blasting a shot off of Wofford keeper Joe Wichmann and into the back of the net. Wild, the reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, currently leads the NCAA in goals scored.
Wofford tied the game in the 63rd minute off a free kick that allowed Kyle Nelson to score his first goal of the season. Jaramillo picked up his first of two assists with a service from the left side of the field that found Nelson for a header past a diving Haddad.
Upstate returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the Spartans host Winthrop from County University Soccer Stadium.
