Upstate Drops Regular Season Finale to North Florida

Spartanburg, S.C. – North Florida scored two goals in each half to claim a 4-0 victory over the USC Upstate men's soccer team Saturday evening in the regular season finale for both teams at County University Soccer Stadium.

Upstate ends its season with a 3-10 overall record and 1-5 mark in the ASUN, while North Florida improves to 9-3-2 on the season and 5-0-1 in conference play.

The Spartans held their Senior Night festivities prior to the match as they honored Rinaldi Alphonse, Sam Moss, Santiago Restrepo and Davis Smith. The contest also served as Upstate's Coaches vs. Cancer Game.

STATS OF THE MATCH

  • The Ospreys held a 14-6 advantage over the Spartans in shots including a 9-2 mark in the second half.
  • Adrian Nunez scored a hat trick for North Florida and led all players with seven shots including four on-goal.
  • Lennart Gruetzmacher attempted a team-high two shots for Upstate, while Cam Philpot and Matt Capozzoli had one attempt on-net apiece.
  • Appearing in his first career game as a Spartan, Tyler Pentz grabbed two saves after playing in the final 29 minutes.
  • Osprey goalie Juanes Fajardo finished the game with three saves.
NORTH FLORIDA GOALS
  • Nunez scored his first goal of the contest in the 6th minute to give UNF the lead. Josh Castellanos placed his through ball past the Upstate defense to Nunez, who was left one-on-one against Restrepo and scored left side. (USC Upstate 0, North Florida 1)
  • Nunez collected his second goal in the 26th minute with a header. Cormac Begley received a pass on the far side, took one dribble and put a cross back to the middle of the field. Nunez would place his header by Restrepo. (USC Upstate 0, North Florida 2)
  • Milan Kovacs extended the Ospreys lead to three goals in the 76th minute as Nunez was credited with the assist. A through ball from Nunez set Kovacs up with a one-on-one chance and scored right side. (USC Upstate 0, North Florida 3)
  • Nunez added his third goal of the game in the 80th minute as North Florida went up by four. Mikey Connell passed the ball to Nunez just outside the 18-yard box far side and his strike went past a diving Pentz into the left side of the net. (USC Upstate 0, North Florida 4)
