Delva Ties Career-High in Loss at West Virginia

Morgantown, W.Va. – Brittney Delva tied a career-high with 12 points but the USC Upstate women's basketball team lost 91-33 at No. 13 West Virginia on Saturday night at the WVU Coliseum.

West Virginia improves to 10-0 while Upstate falls to 4-6.

Delva matched her previous output of 12 points against Furman with a team-best 12 points on Saturday after going 6-for-10 from the field. She also pulled down a team-leading six rebounds. Vanessa Agrusa added seven points off of the bench for the Spartans.

Lanay Montgomery and Kristina King each scored 16 points to lead the Mountaineers. Montgomery pulled down 10 rebounds to post a double-double. Teana Muldrow added 15 points with Tynice Martin scoring 14 points.

Game Breakdown

  • The Mountaineers led 5-0 before a Riley Popplewell 3-pointer brought the Spartans to within two with 8:49 to play in the opening quarter. West Virginia led 27-8 at the end of the period.
  • Raven Jefferson sank a 3-pointer at the 6:19 mark of the second quarter to bring Upstate within 14 points, 31-17. West Virginia closed out the half on an 11-2 run for a 42-19 halftime lead.
  • West Virginia outscored Upstate 29-7 in the third quarter to lead 71-26 after three quarters.
  • Agrusa scored the final points of the game just before the buzzer after Coco Ritter grabbed an offensive rebound.

By the Numbers

  • West Virginia outrebounded Upstate 49-23.
  • The Mountaineers scored 19 points off of 17 Upstate turnovers. The Spartans scored six points off of 14 West Virginia turnovers.
  • Upstate shot 23.7 percent from the field while the Mountaineers finished at 59.7 percent.
