Upstate Drops 4-2 Non-Conference Decision to High Point

Spartanburg, S.C. – The High Point Panthers scored four second-half goals, including two from Chris Ramsell, as it rallied to defeat the USC Upstate men's soccer team 4-2 in non-conference action Saturday evening from County University Soccer Stadium.

Upstate falls to 2-3 on the season while High Point improves to 5-0-1.

STATS OF THE MATCH

  • The Panthers held a 17-10 advantage over the Spartans in shots highlighted by a 12-5 mark in the second half. Both teams attempted five each in the first half.
  • Rinaldi Alphonse, Cam Philpot and Michelangelo Dovidio each took two shots to lead the Upstate offense, and Alphonse finished with two attempts on-goal.
  • Ramsell had a team-leading four shots for High Point including two on-goal.
  • Santiago Restrepo grabbed a career-high four saves for the Spartans.
  • Pat Fallon also had four saves in goal for the Panthers.
UPSTATE GOALS
  • Alphonse scored his first goal of the season to give Upstate a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute. Calon Minors posted his third assist after his cross went into the box and through the arms of Fallon. Alphonse was open behind the defense for the goal. (USC Upstate 1, High Point 0)
  • Morten Timm scored his first career goal as a Spartan in the 57th minute to extend their lead to 2-0. Hamilton Gmah was battling an HPU defender and crossed the ball to Timm, who came into the box near side, and scored in the open goal. (USC Upstate 2, High Point 0)

HIGH POINT GOALS

  • Rasmell tallied his first goal of the contest shortly thereafter in the 59th minute on a penalty kick. (USC Upstate 2, High Point 1).
  • Ramsell tied the game at 2-2 less than two minutes later in the 61st minute after High Point was awarded a corner kick near side. Bana Ganidekam placed the corner into a crowd of players just inside the six-yard box and Ramsell managed to deflect the ball past Upstate goalie Davis Smith. (USC Upstate 2, High Point 2)
  • Erien Campbell gave the Panthers the lead for good in the 69th minute with his fourth goal of the season following a cross by Ramsell. Ramsell sailed the ball into the middle of the 18-yard box and Campbell sent a quick header by Smith right side. (USC Upstate 2, High Point 3)
  • Renato Punyed added to High Point's lead in the 80th minute after netting his first goal of the year. The Spartan defense had cleared the ball from in front of their net but the ball went to the feet of Punyed outside the 18-yard box. Punyed's shot from 25 yards out sailed into the top-left corner of the goal. (USC Upstate 2, High Point 4)
