Dutey Lifts Liberty to 1-0 Victory over Upstate

Spartanburg, S.C. – Shalom Dutey's goal in the 68th minute gave the Liberty Flames a 1-0 victory over the USC Upstate men's soccer team Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at County University Soccer Stadium.

The Flames improve to 3-1 on the season while the Spartans fall to 1-1 overall.

STATS OF THE MATCH

  • Upstate held an 11-10 advantage in shots over Liberty with seven of the Spartans' 11 attempts coming in the first half. Liberty attempted seven shots in the second half.
  • Morten Timm led Upstate with three shots including two on-goal. Three Liberty players took two shots apiece.
  • Making his first career start for Upstate, goalie Davis Smith made four saves highlighted by a stop on a penalty kick in the 10th minute of play.
  • James Knoebel made five saves in goal for the Flames.
  • Liberty improves to 2-1 against the Spartans all-time and have won both meetings in the Division I era.
LIBERTY GOALS
  • Smith stopped a shot attempt from Chase Hovious but the deflection bounced to Dutey inside the box as he netted his first goal of the season (Liberty 1, USC Upstate 0).
