Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate softball team continues its six-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon when it hosts the N.C. State Wolfpack in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. from Cyrill Stadium.

Upstate (23-6) is returning to the field for the first time since last Friday when it dropped a 3-2 decision to Ohio. Alicia Dorgan hit her third home run of the season in the contest and became the first Spartan to homer in back-to-back games since teammate Abbie Millete last season when she homered in the regular season finale at North Florida and versus Jacksonville in the ASUN Tournament. Holly McKinnon recorded seven strikeouts on the mound and marked the tenth time this season she has compiled at least seven strikeouts in an appearance.

Upstate currently has the best pitching staff in the ASUN this season boasting a 1.26 team earned run average and 239 strikeouts for a conference-leading 8.58 strikeouts per seven innings. Karla Beasley leads the Spartans offensively with a .348 average, six home runs and 25 RBI. On the mound, McKinnon is 12-3 with a 1.00 ERA and Lexi Shubert is 10-3 overall to go with a 1.52 ERA.

N.C. State currently sits at 11-16 on the season and has won five of its last six games after sweeping Virginia last weekend in ACC play. The Wolfpack are led offensively by Jade Caraway with a .422 batting average, while Tyler Ross has five home runs and 20 RBI. On the mound, Peyton Silverman has seven wins. N.C. State is under the direction of fifth-year head coach Shawn Rychcik.

The Spartans and Wolfpack are meeting for the sixth and seventh times in program history with N.C. State holding a 4-1 lead in the all-time series. The Wolfpack defeated Upstate 8-0 in five innings last season in Raleigh.
