Spartanburg, S.C. – The Lipscomb Bisons scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to earn a 2-0 victory over the USC Upstate softball team on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game ASUN series at Cyrill Stadium.
Upstate falls to 27-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while Lipscomb improves to 24-9 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Scoring Breakdown
- Top 8th – Three Spartan errors in the eighth led to two runs as the Bisons took a 2-0 lead. Peyton Ward reached on an error with one out and later scored from first on two Upstate errors after Destinee Brewer hit into a fielder's choice. Brewer then came home on an RBI single to center field by Kasey Gibson.
Notables
- Holly McKinnon (14-4) suffered the loss after giving up two runs (none earned) on three hits, no walks and six strikeouts in eight innings of work.
- Mandy Jordan (16-4) earned the complete game victory and did not allow a run on four hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
- McKinnon compiled her 10th complete game of the season and notched her second start this weekend of pitching eight innings. The senior now has six outings in her Spartan career of throwing at least eight innings.
- Karla Beasley, Alicia Dorgan, Kayla Hussey and Kendsey Chappelear all had one hit apiece for Upstate.
- Gibson was one of three Lipscomb players to have one hit in the game and added one RBI.
