Farmville, Va. – For the first time in the program's Division I era, the USC Upstate women's soccer team captured a postseason tournament victory as the No. 6 seed Spartans used a penalty kick from Abbie Ellis to defeat the third-seeded Longwood Lancers 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the Big South Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday afternoon from the Longwood Athletics Complex.
USC Upstate improves to 11-8 on the season while Longwood's season ends at 8-7-3 overall.
STATS OF THE GAME
- The Spartans earn their first-ever postseason win at the Division I level and first tournament semifinals appearance.
- Ellis scored her conference-leading 15th goal of the season for USC Upstate and led the team offensively with five shots including two on goal.
- Ellis, the program's all-time leading scorer in the Division I era, now has 21 goals and 50 points throughout her three-year career.
- Ellis is also one goal and two points away from tying Thea Moen (2000-01) as the program's all-time leading scorer in program history.
- Montanna Hill contributed four shots.
- Emelie Kupsov attempted a team-high five shots for the Lancers.
- Logan Pace collected her third shutout of the season, all within the last four games, after finishing with four saves.
- Longwood goalie Madison Van Dyke grabbed a total of five saves.

- Ellis converted on her fourth penalty kick of the season to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. (USC Upstate 1, Longwood 0)
