Athens, Ga. – The USC Upstate softball team dropped a 10-0 non-conference decision in five innings to the sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday evening at Jack Turner Stadium.
USC Upstate falls to 29-16 on the season while Georgia improves to 38-6 overall.
Scoring Breakdown
- Bottom 1st – The Bulldogs struck first for two runs and led the Spartans 2-0 on a 2-run homer by Alyssa DiCarlo.
- Bottom 2nd – Georgia added four runs to extend its lead to 6-0 highlighted by a two-RBI double from Cortni Emanuel. DiCarlo and Justice Milz also had RBI singles.
- Bottom 3rd – The Bulldogs made it a 9-0 contest in the third after scoring three times. Milz plated two more runs with her single while Jordan Doggett recorded an RBI single.
- Bottom 4th – DiCarlo hit her second home run of the game, a solo blast, to put Georgia ahead 10-0.
Notables
- Mary Wilson Avant (5-1) earned the win after not allowing a run on two hits, two walks and three strikeouts in four innings of work.
- Caylie Van Auken (4-4) suffered the loss pitching 1.2 innings and gave up six runs (two earned) on six hits, no walks and no strikeouts.
- Kristen Wright and Brittany Case led USC Upstate with one hit apiece.
- Karla Beasley and Kayla Hussey each drew one walk.
- DiCarlo finished the game with three hits and four RBI for the Bulldogs.
- Emanuel added three hits and two RBI.
