Spartans Come Away Empty Handed at Longwood

FARMVILLE, VA. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Longwood on Saturday afternoon in front of crowd of 115 people.
 
USC Upstate (2-8-3, 0-6-1 BSC) has now lost six straight matches dating back to the start of Big South play and they are now 1-2 all-time against Longwood (5-6-1, 3-2-1 BSC).
 
Through almost the first half-hour of play the Spartans and the Lancers played a tightly contested contest. Then a through ball from the mid-field opened things up for Longwood. Kaitlyn Cox connected with Kennedy Culbreath and the Lancers took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
 
The second half did not go much better for the Spartans as Emilie Kupsov scored four minutes into the half to give the Lancers a 2-0 advantage. Longwood scored their third and final goal in the 86th minute by Madison Hommey.
 
Stats of the Game
  • USC Upstate was outshot 21-7 in overall shots and 11-2 in shots on goal.
  • Logan Pace recorded 8 saves in the match to lead both goalies.
  • Abbie Ellis registered a pair of shots to lead the Spartans offense on the afternoon.
  • Kennedy Culbreath led the Longwood offense with four total shots on the afternoon.
