SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team defeated Longwood 1-0 on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 215 people at County University Soccer Stadium.
The win broke a two game losing streak for USC Upstate (3-8-0, 1-3-0 BSC) and it also snapped a three game home losing streak.
Pascal Corvino took a pass from
Pol Monells in the fourth minute of the game and fired it past the goalie to give the Spartans the early advantage.
Outside of the goal in the opening minutes of the first half the two teams were evenly matched. Both squads took turns marching it up and down the field as they attempted to score on one another. USC Upstate starting goalkeeper
Felipe Baeza stood strong in goal with four saves on the night. Baeza also recorded his third clean sheet of the season in the win on Saturday night.
Stats of the Match:
- The two teams ended the match with 14 shots each, with USC Upstate holding a slight edge in shots on goal at 6-4.
- Longwood attempted more corner kicks than the Spartans, while USC Upstate appeared to be the more physical team committing 16 fouls and four yellow cards.
- Pol Monells led the Spartans offense with six shots overall and a trio of shots on goal.
- Mikel Abando led the Lancers with a trio of shots on the night.

- USC Upstate will hit the road this coming Wednesday as they travel to Radford for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Highlanders.
