Early Goals Prove Costly for USC Upstate

RADFORD, Va. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team fell 3-0 to Radford on Wednesday evening in front of 105 fans at Cupp Stadium.
 
The opening half of action was relatively quiet in the opening half-hour of play. Both teams moved the ball up and down the field attempting to find the weakness in the others defense. Then in the 30th minute of action Mouhameth Thiam stole it from the Spartans defense and scored the opening goal of the game.
 
Two minutes later Djibril Baye Faye scored the second goal of the game after he received a pass from Thure Ilgner. Radford went into the halftime break leading 2-0 over USC Upstate. The Highlanders outshot the Spartans 6-5 in the opening frame.
 
In the second half Radford tacked on their third and final goal of the game in the 58th minute of the game. Victor Valls' first shot was blocked and he scored off the rebound to give the Highlanders a 3-0 win.
 
Stats of the Game
  • USC Upstate and Radford both attempted 13 shots in the game. The Highlanders recorded seven shots on goal, while USC Upstate recorded a trio of shots on goal.
  • USC Upstate recorded four saves in the match and five corner kicks in the contest.
  • Pol Monells and Pascal Corvino each attempted four shots in the game to lead the USC Upstate offense.
